Bringing Back the Pause for Prayer
The Angelus Bell Project is an initiative spearheaded by lay Catholics with a single mission: that Christians everywhere will return to the ancient practice of pausing three times a day to pray the Angelus.
A Tradition That Faded
For centuries, church bells called Christians to pause three times a day to pray the Angelus, a meditation on the Incarnation. In village squares and open fields, across Europe and beyond, people stopped what they were doing and turned their hearts to God.
Most of us no longer live within earshot of a bell that rings the Angelus, and many Catholics have never been taught it. The Angelus Bell Project exists to bring that pause back: through the free Angelus Bell app, which rings real church bells on your devices, and through this site, where anyone can learn the prayer and pray it in their own language.
- The Angelus Bell app, free on iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, Android, and Chrome.
- 10,000+ users, rated 4.9 stars.
- The prayer in Latin and 19 other languages, each from a named source.
- Real bells recorded at churches and abbeys in France, Italy, the Czech Republic, and the United States.
The People Behind the Project

Daniel Egan
Founder
Daniel Egan is a Catholic husband, father, and Detroit-based entrepreneur. In the spring of 2025, he built a simple Chrome extension to remind himself to pray the Angelus during his hectic workday. From that small tool, the Angelus Bell Project was born.
